You can literally pile up loot in a guards path and they are not programmed to notice. It seems arbitrary until you realize they do not see items you have stolen, just breached security. Their AI is half-baked for this kind of game to be sure. The task was a bit beyond the dev team, true. So all the jank and bugs and shortcomings get a free pass. They also wanna be a burglar, doing burglar things, and there's next to no games that just occupy that niche. People wanna be a hitman, doing hits, not play a mid tier action movie where the main character did some wetwork. It's the difference between the new Hitman games and Hitman: Absolution. A lot of games where you'd play a thief or assassin or whatever aren't like lifestyle games where you get to feel like that kind of character, they're action movies where your action story protagonist has an occupational backstory. I think it just comes down to how hungry people are for this kind of game that they overlook a lot of bugs and janky design decisions. Other games have stealth and theft, but as component elements, not as the core gameplay loop. I think that's why people liked it so much. No frills, no fantastical elements, just an attempt to fill a niche that nobody truly had yet. It was fun and refreshing to play a game that focused on just being a burglar. I think the positive reception is because of the dirth of games of its type. Not recommending something is not the same as recommending against the thing. ![]() People want to be able to leave their neutral thoughts and opinions - their neutral reviews - without being forced into this harsh and confusingly-explained binary. I similarly would not actively recommend avoiding McDonald's, because I know that sometimes you just want junk food, or you want the comforting familiarity, and it can satisfy those cravings perfectly well. Meanwhile, Steam treats a "I would not recommend" the same as "I would recommend avoiding", and that's just not equivalent.įor an analogy, I would not recommend to the general public to go to McDonald's, not because the food is completely unenjoyable, but because it's just "meh" at best. There are games that I wouldn't recommend, but that I enjoyed, or that I have thoughts which I'd like to share. Steam doesn't prompt users "did you like it", but rather "would you recommend it". See, that language already misses a subtle but important part of Steam's review system. Have any of you played this game? I've had it for years, I wasn't expecting a lot, but certainly more than this ![]() The thing is, it's in such an awkward place stuck inbetween meme-game and simulation that it completely fails at both - it's not funny or broken enough to be laughed at, and also WAYY too punishing and frustrating to open up a sandbox-y fun way of progressing through a house, opening a single drawer quickly often gets the whole house alarmed and ready to zone in on your exact location. The "storyline" just seems to be a guide to lead you towards the next house - I was 3 hours in and all I got was "hey man, can you smash the tv at this location? thanks" It's basically very early Elder Scrolls Stealth as an Alpha release without any interesting abilities or combat and you can only carry 5-6 items before you need to leave no idea, the sidewalks maybe? The gameplayloop consists of clicking on a tenant to learn their pattern (or buy the information online), come back at a certain time and just click on all doors and items you want to interact with/steal and then buy new equipment to do the same thing in a bigger house. The game feels like a 3-4/10 early access title, the stealth is horrible, the movement is awfully clunky and I kept getting stuck on. was something different.ġ5000 Reviews, 86% positive - I was expecting at least a decent 7/10 title with some clunky meme gameplay and decent ideas, but what I got was so much worse. I've had my good share of games being in the 95%+ steam category and ultimately left feeling very underwhelmed, especially if they are niche titles or have less than 1000 reviews.
